Auto-Renewable Subscription

Short definition

An auto-renewable subscription is an In-App Purchase type that charges the user at a fixed interval (weekly, monthly, yearly, etc.) and renews automatically until the user cancels.

Detailed

On iOS, auto-renewable subscriptions are tightly regulated by App Store Review Guideline 3.1.2: the purchase paywall must display the duration, price per period, renewal terms, and a functional link to both the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. On Android, Google Play requires similar disclosures. Both platforms handle billing, renewals, and cancellations through their respective store accounts.

Example

A meditation app offers a $9.99/month or $59.99/year auto-renewable subscription. The paywall shows 'Free for 7 days, then $59.99/year. Cancel anytime in Settings.' alongside clickable Privacy Policy and Terms of Use links, matching guideline 3.1.2.
